AmpTank Energy is happy to announce the financial close for the expansion to 100MW/200MWh of our joint venture project in Simo. The project is a joint venture with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), a part of Jameel Energy, and will be financed via a term loan provided by Kommunalkredit Austria AG, which has acted as sole arranger and lender. AmpTank is a developer and owner of energy storage systems in the Nordic and Baltic regions and has recently expanded into data centers with a +1GW data center with associated BESS pipeline across Finland and the Nordics.
Construction of the second phase has already started an is expected to be operational in Q2 2026. Located near the Fingrid Simojoki substation in Lapland along the newly expanded 1.8 GW Aurora Line connecting Sweden and Finland, the site will initially house 26 Sungrow PowerTitan battery arrays and expand via 34 Huawei Luna battery containers in phase 2. The project covers a 1.2-hectare area.
AmpTank continues to demonstrate its ability to deliver grid scale projects in the Nordic and is poised for significant expansion in 2025 and 2026 in both its BESS and datacenter businesses, with its Utajärvi datacenter project scheduled to start construction by the end of 2025.
